Tim Allen’s grandfather became a tenant of the Holkham Estate just after the last World War, his father Geoffrey continued the tradition, and now Tim and his brother Phil have begun the third generation.
Morley Farm is a 500 acre traditional mixed arable farm at South Creake. Tim runs around a hundred breeding sows outdoors. The Large White x Landrace pigs - with a hint of Duroc in them - are a perfect part of the ecosystem of the farm. Barley and wheat is grown on the farm, turned into pig feed at the mill, and fed back to the pigs in their paddocks.
The pigs breed all year round, producing five litters in two years from which they try to wean ten per litter. Though eating is their favourite pastime, pigs are clever and Tim hangs chains and other ‘toys’ around their pens for the pigs to play with.
